Brazilian Court Allows Boeing to Continue Aggressive Engineer Recruitment

Boeing won a lawsuit in Brazil against two industry associations that sought to restrict its hiring of engineers. The court ruled that although Boeing’s recruitment strategy is aggressive, it does not violate Brazilian law and cannot be judicially limited.

The associations claimed that Boeing had poached hundreds of experienced engineers, mainly from Embraer, harming defense projects. Some companies reportedly lost up to 70% of their teams in key areas, posing a potential national security risk. However, the judge found no proven harm, stating that the risk was only “potential” and emphasizing that in a free market, professionals are entitled to accept better offers.

The dispute stems from Boeing’s failed 2018 attempt to acquire Embraer’s commercial aviation division, a deal that collapsed in 2020 due to the 737 MAX crisis and the pandemic. Following that, Boeing opened its own engineering center in Brazil in 2023 and began hiring extensively from the country’s aerospace sector.
